Mittelschweres Laufgewicht mit massivem Haken. Die innen hohle Athenabüste ruht auf einem zweifach profilierten, rechteckigen Sockel. DieGöttin ist mit ihren typischenAttributenHelmundÄgis dargestellt. Auf dem Kamm des Helmes eine Aufhängeöse, daran der Haken. Sockelzone, Rückenpanzer und Helm sind mit punzierten Ornamenten verziert. Die Arme sind nur am Schulteransatz angedeutet. Darauf beidseitig jeweils ein punziertes Kreuz. Ein ähnliches Athena-Lauf­ gewicht im Ausstellungskatalog L. Wamser (Hrsg.), Die Welt von By- zanz - Europas östliches Erbe (München 2004) 358 Nr. 784, wo die Kreuze als Versuch gewertet werden, den paganen Charakter der Büste zu entwerten. Der antike Bleikern fehlt. Intakt. Höhe Büste 19,5 cm (mit Haken 41,5 cm). Gewicht 1,58 kg. Provenienz: Aus rheinischer Privatsammlung, übernommen aus der Sammlung des Vaters, erworben in den 1960-1980er Jahren im deut- schen und belgischen Kunsthandel. An Early Byzantine sliding weight shaped like a bust of Athena, 4th - 5th century Medium-heavy sliding weight with a solid hook. The hollow bust of Athena is mounted on a two-tiered, rectangular pedestal. The goddess is represented with her typical attributes of helmet and aegis. The hook is attached to the suspension loop on the comb of her helmet. The pedestal, backplate and helmet are decorated with embossed orna- ments. The arms merely indicated at the top of the shoulders. A cross punched into the shoulders on both sides. A similar Athena sliding weight can be viewed in the exhibition catalogue edited by L. Wamser, Die Welt von Byzanz - Europas östliches Erbe (Munich 2004) 358 no. 784, which interprets the crosses as an attempt to devalue the pagan character of the bust. The antique lead core is lost.
