| 603 A magnificent Prussian Damascus presentation sword M 1889 for officers, dated 1890 Sturdy, single-edged blade of forged Damascus steel with double fullers on both sides, the gilt marker‘s mark „Carl Stahl Cassel“ etched on the spine. The obverse with the gilt dedication „Hermann s./l. Schneider /Feld-Artill. Regt. 18 Jäger Bat. 4 / Cassel 1890“ on a blued background, the inscription „Eisenhauer Damast-Stahl“ on the reverse. Knuckle-bow hilt in beautiful gilt, non-ferrous metal with lavish relief decoration and openwork guard plate, containing the crowned Prussian eagle „WR II“. Brown horn grip with silver wire winding, appliquéd cipher „WRII“ and hunting horn, the finger strap has been lost. Polished iron scabbard (slightly stained, the chape pitted) with carrying eyelet and two movable suspension rings. The blade somewhat stained, slightly notched, light traces of rust, a minor defect on the grip and a small repair on the join of the pommel cap. Signs of age and handling. Length 103 cm. The officers mentioned come from Field Artillery Regiment No. 18, based in Frankfurt/Oder, and from the Magdeburg Infantry Battalion No. 4.
