| 169 1016 Mittelalterlicher Eisenhelm mit goldplattierten Beschlägen, Waldsteppen Osteuropas, 10. -11. Jhdt. Spitz zulaufende, aus einem Stück geschmiedete Kalotte, darauf montiert ursprünglich goldplattierte, reich mit Punzen und Ritzungen verzierte Beschläge, deren Ornamentik nur noch partiell gut erkennbar ist. Vor der Stirn waagrecht abstehender Eisenschirm vernietet, im linken Eck Reste einer komplexen Verzierung aus ineinander verflochtenen Bändern mit Kreispunzen in den Freiflächen und Resten einer Abdeckung durch Goldplattierung. Dahinter rund um die Kalotte drei breite Blechstreifen vernietet, die unterhalb der Kalotte den Nacken abdecken. Die Enden der beiden seitlichen Streifen durch gewellte Linien profiliert. Auch auf diesen Blechstreifen, die auf der Oberfläche teilweise stark restauratorisch behandelt sind, Abschnitte mit Resten einer gleichermaßen komplizierten Ornamentik wie auf dem Stirnschirm. Auf der Kalotte vier kreuzförmig angeordnete Blechstreifen mit gewellten Rändern, gleichfalls mit Resten der komplexen, goldplattierten Ornamentik. Die Mitte der Kalotte durch einen an der Basis konischen Aufsatz bekrönt, der in einen nach hinten abgebogenen Stab mündet, der wohl zur Befestigung eines Helmschmucks diente. Der Helm hat einzelne Merkmale von Helmen aus dem Gebiet der Kiever Rus, darunter die gewellten Ränder der Beschläge und den Aufsatz auf der Mitte der Kalotte, ohne eine eindeutige Parallele zu besitzen. Auch die Ornamentik lässt sich mit kunsthandwerklichen Erzeugnissen der Kiever Rus in Verbindung bringen. Länge 26,7 cm. Breite 23 cm. Höhe 23 cm. KULTURGUT! A medieval iron helmet with gold-plated fittings from the forest-steppe regions of Eastern Europe, 10th -11th century The skull forged in one piece, tapering to a point, mounted with fittings, originally gold-plated and lavishly embellished with marks and etchings, this ornamentation only partially preserved. The iron visor projecting horizontally and riveted at the forehead, in the left corner remnants of a complex decoration of interwoven bands with circular punches in the open spaces and traces of gold plating. Three wide strips of sheet metal riveted around the skull at the back, which protect the nape below the skull. The ends of the two side bands contoured by undulating lines. Moreover, sections on these strips of sheet metal, the surface of which has been heavily restored in places, with remnants of elaborate decoration, matching that on the front visor. Four sheet metal strips with undulating edges in a cruciform arrangement on the skull, also with remnants of the complex, gold-plated ornaments. The centre of the skull crowned with a finial, conical at the base, extending into a rod that is bent backwards, probably used to attach a helmet decoration. The helmet boasts individual features of helmets from the Kievan Rus‘ region, including the undulating edges of the fittings and the finial on the crown of the skull, without any clear parallels.
