| 5 T he linage of the House of Leonrod goes back to Prince-Elector Karl Theodor of Bavaria. Names like von Stengel, von Sazenhofen and von Thünefeld und Ursensollen are part of the Leonrod clan. The family was an intricate part of Bavaria’s history through civil, clerical and military merit. Members, men and ladies alike, were not only part of the St. Hubert Order, the St. George Order or the Order of Therese, but name patrons to streets and public spaces. The younger generation of the House of Leonrod served as President of the Court of Appeals, Minister of Justice, Bishop or through multiple generations as Generals and Lord Chamberlains to the Bavarian Kings. One of the last members of the Leonrod family, Ludwig von Leonrod, was court-martialed and executed as a conspirator to the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler.
