Wilhelm Freiherr von Leonrod – A personal presentation frame from Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, awarded on 14 April 1914 Half-length portrait of the archduke in his general’s uniform with nu- merous decorations, his original signature, including his title, in ink at the lower edge. The name of the atelier “Adèle Wien/Ischl” on the front, a note handwritten by Wilhelm von Leonrod on the upper edge at the back (tr.) “Received on the occasion of Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s official visit to Munich on 14.4.1914. W. Frhr. von Leonrod” and the name of the atelier once more, with the addendum “Inh: Wilhelm Förster k. und k. Hof-Photograph”. The smooth silver frame bearing the number “52422” on the side, the head of Diana hallmark for . 900 silver and another, illegible stamp. The partially enamelled Habsburg-Lorraine coat of arms appliquéd in the upper left corner. The back covered in black leather, with a stand. Size of the frame 28.5 x 20.5 cm. In a red leather case with a gold-embossed crown and decora- tive tendrils on the lid (minor knocks to the leather), lined in white velvet and silk, the manufacturer’s mark “F. Halder Juwelier 1. Reitschulg. 4 Wien” in gold in the lid. Dimensions of the case 33.5 x 25.5 x 5.5 cm. Extremely rare and in outstanding condition. From 14 to 16 April 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand stayed with King Ludwig III during his state visit to Munich. The heir to the throne de- parted Munich for Bohemia, travelling on to Bosnia-Herzegovina in June to inspect manoeuvres, where he was assassinated on 28 June while visiting Sarajevo. 247817 I - € 3.000 1109
