150 | Wilhelm Freiherr von Leonrod – A Grand Cross set of the Austrian Order of Leopold in the presentation case The sash decoration worked in gilt bronze, enamelled in white and translucent red. The crown pendilia stamped with the star mark for the replacement metal that was commonly used as standard (instead of gold) from 1916. Stamped “C. F. ROTHE” in the ring. Width 48.5 mm. Weight 34.1 g. Furthermore, the eight-rayed, faceted and pierced breast star in the even earlier produc- tion quality, with the appliquéd order cross in two-coloured gold, intricately etched and chased. The manufacturer’s initials “FR” and the greyhound head “3 A” mark of fineness for .800 silver on the reverse. The pin stamped with “C. F. ROTHE”, “WIEN” and the double “A” hallmark. On the back of the star, the points (one of which has been repaired) indi- cate that the breast star previously bore a gold war decoration for an earlier award, which has been expertly removed. Width 90.5 mm. Weight 70.6 g. Together with the order sash, customised with a rosette, in the red presentation case, embossed with (tr.) “INSIGNIA OF THE GRAND CROSS OF THE AUSTRIAN IMPERIALOrder of Leopold” in gold, made by “ETUIS & CASSETTEN FABRIK JG. BERGMANN WIEN VII”, bearing the replacement metal stamp “BR”. Magnificent order set, with the civil issue of the sash decoration (without war decoration) in gilt bronze.
