The fully sculptured (hollow-cast) trophy of arms riband buckle made in gold with a suspension ring (hallmarked “O” for oro) and inscribed with the manufacturer “A. TANFANI ROMA” on the reverse. Width 58 mm. Weight 38.5 g. The eight-rayed breast star wrought in silver, elaborately faceted and pierced by hand, on a pin with two hooks for wear. The gilt cross appliqué fastened with a screw on the reverse, with the manufacturer’s signet “TANFANI BERTARELLI” and the appliquéd “A” for argento, silver. Width 87 mm. Weight 69.8 g. Januar 1916 mit der Unterschrift des Kardinal- staatssekretärs Pietro Gasparri (1852 - 1934). Dazu die Annahmegenehmigung des „Königl. Bayerischen Staatsministeriums des Königl. Hauses u. des Aeußern”, das Statutenheft und eine Abschrift der Dankes-Antwort Leonrods an den Papst von Mitte Februar. Seltene Kriegsverleihung durch den „Friedens- papst” Benedikt XV. (gebürtig Giacomo della Chiesa, 1854 - 1922), der in seiner „Exhortatio Allorché fummo chiamati”, vom 28. Juli 1915 den Krieg als „grauenhafte Schlächterei” („or- renda carneficina”) bezeichnete, was in der damaligen deutschen Übersetzung zu einem „entsetzlichen Kampf” abgemildert wurde. 247802 I - II € 300 1097
