| 123 Wilhelm Freiherr von Leonrod – A Grand Cross set of the Württemberg Friedrich Order in the presentation case The early sash decoration crafted with consummate workmanship in gold by the Franz Steinam workshop in Stuttgart, the court jeweller until 1886. The eight-rayed segments forming a circle between the white enamelled cross arms, as is typical of Steinam. The blue-enamelled in- scription ring of the medallion inscribed in Gothic script with upper and lower case characters. The portrait of King Friedrich I of Württemberg (1754 – 1816), the order’s namesake and father of the founder (instituted in 1830 by Wilhelm I (1781 - 1864)), intricately embossed in gold, on a chased loop, with a large, hollow-wrought, oak leaf suspension ring. Minor defects in the blue enamel on the reverse. Width 72.3 mm. Weight 55.6 g. Splendid Grand Cross. The eight-rayed breast star from the same production period, the gilt ob- verse oxidised, with seven-part star segments and the manufacturer’s sig- net “F. STEINAM HOFJUWELIER STUTTGART” on the reverse. The domed, appliquéd cross arms wrought in the same design as the earlier, embroidered order stars and fastened with a screw on the reverse. The portrait in identical embossing to the star. Width 84.5 mm. Weight 67.8 g. Comes with the original-length, customised and worn blue sash, plus the note (tr.) “Grand Cross of the Württ. Friedrich Order”, in the (slightly stained) blue presentation case with a gold decorative line and the Württemberg coat of arms embossed in the centre. Splendid, older set dating from circa 1870, which was re-awarded to Wilhelm Freiherr von Leonrod in 1914 after being returned. 247795 II € 7.500 1069
