Diese runde Golddose mit Deckel aus unserer Auktion ist mit vier geflügelten Eroten ver- ziert und trägt als Dekor die Attribute Flöte, Thyrsosstäbe, Trinkschalen undWeinkorb, was einen Zusammenhang mit dem Bacchuskult nahelegt. Dazu passt die Verzierung des Deckels mit einer Girlande. Der Knopf hat die Form eines Pinienzapfens. Am Boden ist der Name der ehemaligen Besitzerin „PAV- LINA“ eingepunzt. Sie war auf jeden Fall ein Mitglied der vornehmsten Kreise der römischen Gesellschaft, da sie sich andernfalls ein derartiges Prunkstück kaum hätte leisten können. The attributes - flute, Thyrsos staffs, drinking bowls, a wine bas- ket - suggest a bacchanalian-pastoral background. The em- bellishment of the lid with a garland matches this. A stylised pine cone serves as a knob. Punched on the bottom of the box is a Roman woman’s name, PAVLINA. She must certainly have been a lady of high standing, at least from the provincial or even from the imperial ruling class. A connection to Caecilia Paulina, the wife of Emperor Maximinus Thrax (emperor between 235 - 238), remains unproven.
