Da in dieser Epoche die Jagd noch ein Privileg des Adels war, lag also nichts näher, als die Jagdwaffen so prächtig und aufwändig wie möglich zu gestalten. Eine solcheWaffe ist auch diese Flinte eines unbekanntenWiener Büchsenmachers aus den ersten Jahrzehnten des 18. Jhdts. Der wundervoll mit Gold und Silber eingelegte Lauf, die vergoldete, mit jagdlichen Szenen geschmückte Garnitur, und nicht zuletzt der fein verschnittene Schaft spiegeln genau die Lebensart des Barocks wider. Die Qualität dieser Flinte hat seinerzeit der be- kannteWaffenkundler und Autor Hans Schedelmann (1894-1982) erkannt, als er sie für seine private Sammlung auf Schloss Etters- burg erwarb. Since hunting was a privi- lege that only the aristocracy enjoyed at that time, crafting hunting weapons as splendidly and elaborately as possible seemed the ob- vious choice. The rifle at hand made by an unknown Viennese gunsmith in the first decades of the 18th century is one such weapon.The barrel, with beautiful inlays of gold and silver, the gilt furniture decorated with hunting scenes and the finely carved stock are a vivid reflection of a Baroque lifestyle. The well-known weaponry expert and author Hans Schedelmann (1894-1982) recognised the quality of this rifle when he acquired it for his collection at Ettersburg Castle.
