Pompon of red wool a later replacement (remnants of the original underneath it). Black leather scabbard (rubbed, stitching partly loosened) with brass fittings (fastening clip missing), frog stud at the locket. Length of sabre 86 cm. Comes with a coarse old leather bandolier (white surface refreshed), inserted in it a socket bayonet of triangular section in a leather scabbard (brass fittings new), length of bayonet 48 cm, inside the scabbard 58 cm. Attached lanyard (white colour refreshed). A sabre for officers of the Infanterie de la Garde Impériale Slightly curved single-edged blade (somewhat stained/pitted in places) with fuller on each side, the central part with cross-section à la Montmorency, upswept double-edged point, the upper third of the blade on both sides decorated with gilt etchings depicting trophies, tendrils and wreaths on a blued ground (rubbed), the base with maker’s signature “S. & C”. Gilt knuckle-bow hilt of non-ferrous metal decorated with leaves in relief, on the obverse languet profile of Napoleon applied in silver, grip with well-preserved, fine copper wire wrap. Black leather scabbard (craquelures, rubbed, stitching partly loosened) with gilt fittings of non-ferrous metal (dents at the chape), frog stud at the locket.
