Kalotte aus drei Teilen: vordere Hälfte mit zwei gegenständigen Spiralranken, einer kurzen mittigen und zwei langen seitlichen Rippen; zwei hintere Viertel mit vier langen Rippen. Diese jeweils nahe den sich überlappenden Kanten vernietet. Vorne Augenausschnitte, darüber ein Nasal mit mittlerer Kante und wulstigen „Augenbrauen” vernietet. An den Rändern des Nasals und der Unterkante der vorderen Kalottenhälfte feine Löcher zur Befestigung einer Brünne. Entlang der hinteren Hälfte ein mit acht Schlaufen befestigter Draht, gleichfalls zur Montage einer Brünne. Auf der Spitze der Kalotte ein konischer Stift mit Öse für eine Helmzier. Nasal leicht geknickt, sonst gut erhalten mit korrodierter, aber stabiler, konservierter Eisensubstanz. Höhe ohne Nasal ca. 24,5 cm, mit Nasal 33 cm. Breite 22,5 cm. Länge ca. 26 cm. Provenienz: Spanische Privatsammlung, erworben 2021 im englischen Kunsthandel. Zuvor verkauft von englischemKunsthändler (2020), erworben aus deutscher Privatsammlung (ca. 60er Jahre bis um 2000). An East Slavic nasal helmet with spiral decoration, late 12th - 13th century Calotte consisting of three parts: front half with two opposite spiral tendrils, one short central rib and two long lateral ribs; two rear quarters with four long ribs. Each of these riveted near the overlapping edges. Eye cutouts in front, a nasal with a central edge and bulging “eyebrows” riveted above. At the edges of the nasal and the lower edge of the front half of the calotte, fine holes for attaching a brunette. Along the rear half a wire fastened with eight loops, likewise for mounting of mail. On the tip of the calotte a conical pin with an eyelet for a crest. Nasal slightly bent, otherwise in good condition with corroded but stable, preserved iron substance. Height without nasal ca. 24.5 cm, with nasal 33 cm. Width 22.5 cm. Length approx. 26 cm. Provenance: Spanish private collection, acquired in 2021 from English art dealer.
