Auf der Oberseite seitlich zwei Fortsätze, die rechtwinklig abgebogen sind und von denen sich je ein S-förmiges Seitenteil bis unter das untere Ende des Maulkorbs einbiegt. Am oberen Ende des Maulkorbs auf Stirnhöhe ein Loch und an den seitlichen Fortsätzen je eine Öse, um den Maulkorb am Zaumzeug zu befestigen. Auf der Oberseite im Zentrum ein Kreuz im Doppelkreis aus kleinen Kreispunzen. In den Winkeln des Kreuzes Sternpunzen. Darüber in einem kleineren Oval ein weiteres Kreuz aus Kreispunzen, darunter eine Kreuzpunze. Dunkelgrüne Patina, Oberfläche mit leichten Korrosionsspuren. Länge des gebogenen Mittelbandes 45 cm. Länge des Objekts ca. 28 cm. Breite 15 cm. Provenienz: Belgische Privatsammlung. A late Roman/early Byzantine bronze horse muzzle, 5th - 7th century A.D. Muzzle with a wide central band that bends around the horse’s nose at the front to under the mouth. At the upper end of the muzzle, at forehead level, a hole and at each of the side extensions an eyelet to attach the muzzle to the bridle. Above it, in a smaller oval, another cross of circular punches, below it a cross punch. Dark green patina, surface with slight traces of corrosion. Length of the curved central band 45 cm. Höhe des Armes 22,5 cm (auf Ständer mit Sockel 39 cm). Dazu eine massive Bronzekeule, die von einer Schlange umwunden wird. Schöne Patina. Länge 25 cm. Sehr dekoratives Ensemble! Provenienz: Aus der Sammlung eines süddeutschen Altphilologen, von diesem erworben in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Dann weiter in Familienbesitz.
