Centered on the oval were highly detailed, enameled, crossed Gross Admiral batons featuring fouled anchors and Prussian crowns, a sil- ver eagle/anchor and gold Kaiser Wilhelm II monogram affixed over the top. Protective box of black fabric covering with a leather carry strap at top and two side straps with buckles for closure, lined in light-blue fabric with bottom oval ridge to secure hat storage, above the hat an inset tray designed for ep- aulette storage with cloth handle at top for removal . Among his many appointments, Kaiser Wilhelm II was the first Grossadmi- ral, a rank bestowed upon only 5 other men in the German Imperial Navy between 1901 and 1919.
