362 | A museum-quality silver-gilt and enamelled communion chalice, Augsburg, Johann David Saler (master circa 1693 - 1724), circa 1705 Silver gilt, cast and hammered. Hexagonal, domed base with a broad, flaring rim. Alternately embellished with three enamelled oval medal- lions and three fields, each with cherubim in relief. Surrounded by chased tendrils and rays on a stippled background. Baluster shaft. The node also adorned with cherubim in relief. Slightly widening bowl with basket appliqué repeating the design of the base: embellished with three enamelled medallions and three pairs of cherubim on a stippled back- ground. The delicately painted enamel plaques show St Francis of Assisi, St Anthony of Padua and St Agatha of Sicily (on the base) and the Coronation of the Virgin, John the Baptist and St Barbara (bowl). Edge of the base stamped with the master’s mark “IDS”. Slight traces of use, minimal cracking in the enamel. Height 28 cm, total weight 669.5 g. Sechspassiger, gewölbter Fuß mit breit ausgestelltem Rand. Alternierend verziert mit drei emaillier- ten Ovalmedaillons und jeweils drei Feldern mit reliefierten Cherubim. Entouriert von getriebenemRankenwerk und Strahlen auf punziertem Fond. Balusterschaft. Den Nodus schmücken ebenfalls reliefierte Che- rubim. Sich leicht weitende Kuppa mit Korbauflage, die entsprechend dem Fuß gestaltet ist: verziert mit drei Emaille-Medaillons und drei Cherubimpaaren auf punziertem Fond. Die sehr fein gemalten Email- le-Plaketten zeigen den Heiligen Franziskus von Assisi, Antonius von Padua und Agatha von Catania (Fuß) sowie die Krönung Mariens, Johannes den Täufer und die Heilige Barbara (Kuppa). Fußrand pun- ziert mit Meistermarke „IDS”. Leichte Gebrauchsspuren, Emaille mit minimalen Rissen. Höhe 28 cm, Gesamtgewicht 669,5 g. Vgl. Seling Bd. III, 1877.
