Schusswaffen aus fünf Jahrhunderten
| 159 V-notch rear sight in the top strap, a pointed pin front sight . Screw heads fire blued or polished. Strong main spring, good timing. Length ca. 36 cm. In matching wooden case, the outer lid with inlaid copper plate, marked “ADDRESS / ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA N Y / INSP ROBERT P BAARY [sic!]”, the inside lined with brown calf, some remainders of gold em- bossing. Original copper powder flask. Later accessories (cleaning rod, tin can for caps, bullet mold marked “RO & SP 7 610 2.11.64” and crudely struck “COLTS / PATENT”). Lid and bottom cracked, key missing, dimensions bore, 6 grooves. Ivory grips, the inside ink- marked (later) “Rogers & Spencer # 610”, the right one with a 3 cm long hairline crack. The top strap marked “ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA.N-Y”. The frame, ahead of the trigger guard screw marked “X”, behind the screw “B”, a “B” also on the right hand side of the arbor pin. Gold-inlaid line engraving around the edges and on both ends of barrel and cylinder. Both sides of frame and loading lever, breech and muzzle ends of barrel, back strap, trigger guard and cylinder with elegantly executed scroll ornaments, with much of gilding remaining. The cylinder a bit spotty. 2123 38,5 x 18,5 x 5,5 cm. A very rare and extremely well made revolver! Of the less than 6000 units made only 800 were sold on the civilian market. Captain Robert P. Barry was the inspector on Remington, Starr, and Rogers & Spencer revolvers from 1860 to 1865. However, the crude make and insertion of the plaque and the spelling mistake don’t correspond to the quality of the gun and the high R&S factory standards.
