| 21 A mummified head of a stork, Late Period, 664 - 332 B.C. Wonderfully preserved mummified head of a stork with a closed, ta pered beak, the eyes removed. Remains of the tousled plumage are still preserved on the back of the head. Storks stood for piety in the Egyptian mythology. But the stork also personified Ba, the personality of the in dividual, the unique character of a person. Since this head has remains of gilding it possibly crowned a mummified bundle of bird mummies, where the head was placed in the other direction of the mummy, as if the animal was sleeping. Mounted. In excellent condition. 40 cm long. P rovenance : Southern German private collection, acquired between 1970 and 1980. Last on the Dutch and Belgian art market. 294453 II + € 2.200 2
