| 79 Nolfi di, „Brescian Firearms”, S. 286, Nr. 16. Die Schlossmachermarke „IG” wird ebenfalls einem bisher unbekannten Brescianer Meister zu gewiesen. A wheellock carbine, Brescia, circa 1620 Two-stage barrel, octagonal then sixteen-sided, with reinforced muzzle. Smooth bore in 17.5 mm calibre. At the breech barrel maker’s signature “G. Batt. Franci”. Combined matchlock and wheellock, match cock and spring on the left lock side removed at a later date. External wheel, spring-loaded pan cover. The inside of the lock struck with locksmith’s mark “IG” with crown. Full stock of blackened walnut wood with iron furniture (minor flaws underneath the lock plate). The trigger guard with finely chiselled and openwork décor. Original wooden ramrod with cut iron tip and chamber with bullet puller. Length 108 cm. Giovan Battista Franzino I is recorded as barrel maker in Brescia in the first half of the 17th century. A weapon with identical signature is on display in the collection of the Armeria Reale in Turin. C f . Carpegna, Nolfi di, “Brescian Firearms”, p. 286, no. 16.
