Empress Elisabeth of Austria – a dressing room apron, circa 1870 White pleated linen with a continuous curved trim, sewn separately onto the lower edge, a slip pocket on the right-hand side, two linen bands to be tied at the back and a red, embroi- dered crown. A label reading “Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät” and the number “2255” sewn on the inside of the lower edge. The Empress usually wore these aprons to protect her evening gowns after she was dressed, for example while her make-up was being applied or her hair styled. Kragen, Ärmel und an der Brust mit weißer Spitze verziert. Am Unterrand in Weiß gestickte Krone mit schwer lesbarem, verschlungenem Mono- gramm. Innen vernähtes Etikett „Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät” mit der Nummer „2438”. Schöne Erhaltung. Möglicherweise handelt es sich bei dem Monogramm um ein „SC” von Herzogin Sophie Charlotte in Bayern, der jüngeren Schwester der Kaiserin. Empress Elisabeth of Austria – a sleeveless nightgown or chemise, circa 1870 Extremely fine, white linen. The collar, sleeves and breast embellished with white lace. A white, embroidered crown with a hardly legi- ble, intertwined monogram on the lower edge. A label reading “Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät” and the number “2438” sewn on the inside. In excellent condition. It is quite possible that the monogram is “SC” for Duchess Sophie Char- lotte of Bavaria, the Empress’ younger sister.
