Fein gearbeitete Auflage aus feuervergoldeter Bronze für einen eisernen Schildbuckel. 24 Spangen, davon acht verloren, um zentralen Buckel. An der Basis der Spangen gelochte Befestigungslaschen, seitlich aufgesetzte Zier- knäufe. Auf dem Buckel zentrale Lochung, umlaufend sieben kleine Lochungen, davon eine mit erhaltener blütenförmiger Niete. Ver- bogen, unvollständig. Maße ca. 7,5 x 11 cm. Seltener Zierbeschlag eines ritterlichen Schil- des aus der Zeit der Schlacht von Hastings. A German gilded shield mount, 10th/11th century Finely worked overlay of fire-gilt bronze for a single shield boss. 24 clasps, eight of them lost, around the central boss. Perforated mounting lugs at the base of the clasps, decorative knobs on the sides. Central perforation on the boss, seven small perforations all around, one of which with a preserved flower-shaped rivet. Bent, incomplete. Measures approx. 7.5 x 11 cm.
