A depiction of a faun wearing a lion’s skin and sandals, banging two cymbals in his hands. A tree trunk to his left. On a rectangular plinth. Height 71 cm. Modelled on the dancing faun in the collection of the Uffizi in Florence. Unlike the antique painting, in which the dancer is shown unclothed, a lion’s skin was added to this version, adapting it to suit the prudish tastes of the 19th century. 274916 I - € 4.000 210 „Tanzender Faun” - klassizistische Bronze, Italien, 19. An seiner linken Seite ein Baumstumpf. Auf rechteckiger Plinthe. Höhe 71 cm. Nach dem Vorbild des tanzenden Fauns aus der Sammlung der Uffizien in Florenz. Entgegen dem antiken Vorbild, das den Tänzer vollkommen unbekleidet zeigt, wurde diese Dar- stellung dem prüden Geschmack des 19. Jhdts. angepasst und mit einem Löwenfell versehen.
