Ein vorzüglich erhaltenes Paar griechisch-hellenistischer Goldarmreife, wie es von Damen vornehmster Häuser getra- gen worden sein dürfte. Jedes mit einem großen runden Me- daillon mit getriebenem Relief, zentral darin das Haupt der Medusa, einmal schräg nach links, einmal schräg nach rechts. Ganz der hellenistischen Kunstvorstellung entsprechend ist die Medusa hier nicht Schrecken erzeugend, sondern fast an- mutig dargestellt. Über ihrem Haupt Pferdeprotome, die auf den Mythos der Geburt des Pegasus anspielen. Das eigentliche Armband aus breitem gewellten Goldblech. Am Übergang zum Medaillon große Scharniere. Mit einem goldenen Scharnierstift, der durch einKettchen gegenVerlust gesichert ist. Mit höchst detailreichem Dekor. Intakt. Keine Risse, keine Ergänzungen! Länge 7,6 cm und 7,8 cm. An exquisitely preserved pair of Greek-Hellenistic gold brace- lets such as those worn by ladies of the most distinguished fam- ilies. Each with a large, round medallion featuring a chased relief, at the centre of which is the head of Medusa, on one fac- ing left at an angle, the other facing right. In accordance with theHellenistic concept of art,Medusa is not depicted as a fright- ening figure but is almost graceful. The horse protomes above her head allude to the myth of the birth of Pegasus. The bracelet itself is made of wide, fluted sheet gold. Large hinges at the join to the medallion. With a golden hinge pin, which is secured with a small safety chain. Highly detailed decoration. Intact. No cracks, no additions. Length 7.6 cm and 7.8 cm. Diameter of the medallions 3.8 cm. Weight 51.9 g and 52.9 g.
