300 | Lot xx A significant deluxe flintlock shotgun from the electoral armoury of Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria, Gilles Massin, Liège, circa 1720 Two-stage, smooth-bore barrel, octagonal then round, in 16 mm calibre. Surface-mounted silver front sight. Finely engraved and chiselled ornamentation at the breechwith a large coat of arms of the Electorate of Bavaria on a gold-inlaid back- ground. The gold-inlaid motto “in manibus tuis sortis meae” on the side, four gold-lined marks, “G. Massin” and “GM” below a crown at the root of the barrel. Finely engraved flint- lock with the repeated signature “G. Massin”. The openwork lock side plate with chiselled figurative décor in relief. The ex- quisitely carved full stock with Spanish-style butt. Engraved iron furniture with fine relief chiselling, the butt cap marked “No. 66”. The thumb plate with a finely chased portrait ofMax- imilian II Emanuel on a gold-inlaid background. Inset wooden ramrod with an engraved iron cap. Length 148 cm.
