170 | An unusual and impressive South Tyrolean altar, circa 1600 Finely and lavishly carved in wood, painted in colour and partially gilt. The three-part structure of the altar combines early Renaissance and late Gothic design elements to form what is known as the post-Gothic style (see Erich Egg, Gotik in Tirol, Die Flügelaltäre, Haymon-Verlag, Innsbruck, 1985). The figures of saints and founders resting on a chest-shaped base, next to pillars with capital-like finials. The figure in the centre represents a Woman of the Apocalypse with the Infant Jesus, his hand raised in blessing. Above which, niches with sculptedGothic crowns and appliquédGothic pinnacles. God the Father at the top, also with a carved niche crown in Gothic style, the decorative superstructure and pinnacles are repeat- ed. Dimensions 250 x 140 x 38 cm. Der dreiteilige Aufbau des Altars vereint Stil- elemente der frühen Renaissance und späten Gotik und zeigt sich imStil der sog. Nachgotik (siehe ErichEgg, Gotik in Tirol, Die Flügelaltäre, Haymon-Verlag, Innsbruck, 1985). Auf tru- henförmigemUnterbau ruhende Heiligen- und Stifterfiguren sowie Säulen mit kapitellartigem Abschluss. Die zentrale Hauptfigur stellt eine Mondsichelmadonna mit segnendem Christusknaben dar. Darüber Nischen mit gotischem Ge- sprenge und aufgesetzten gotischen Fialen. Abschließender Gottvater ebenfalls mit bekrönender Nischenschnitzerei in gotischer Handschrift, wiederum mit Gesprenge und Fialen. Maße 250 x 140 x 38 cm. Zu diesem Altar wurde von Herrn Dr. Albrecht Miller ein aktuelles, ausführliches Gutachten erstellt. Provenienz: Aus einer österreichischen Privatsammlung. Seit den 1970er Jahren in privater Hand.
