Nobukazu Watanabe (1874 - 1944) was a student during the late Meiji period and produced work in the traditional woodblock print format and style often focussing on historical scenes from the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese wars. Painted by the well-known Munich historical artist Anton Hoffman, with signature in the lower left. Hoffmann (1863 - 1938) was a painter, illustrator and university professor and two of his main subjects were history and military paintings, particularly of artillery, infantry and cavalry. Hoffman also designed rar bond posters and illustrated schoolbooks, maga­ zines, post cards and history books. Wooden frame painted gold.
