Er baute das Pavlovsky Institut und gilt als Begründer des russischen Schmuckstils. Der St. Petersburger Yachtclub zog in den ersten 50 Jahren seiner Tätigkeit 2.700 Menschen an, erwarb 533 Yachten und organisierte mehr als 500 Rennen. Er diente als Vorbild für alle ähn- lichen Yachtclubs in Russland. A splendid silver-mounted writing case of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, awarded to the renowned architect Pavel Karlovitch Notbek (1824 – 1877), St. Petersburg, dated 1870/1872 Velvet-covered writing case with partly gilt silver mounting. At the bottom St. Petersburg mark of fineness for “84” zolotniki, master’s mark “Sazikov”, punched year cypher “1870” and double-headed eagle for the court porvey- or as well as a stamp for the purveyor to the Russian grand dukes. In the centre partly gilt anchor, two flags with engraved St. Petersburg coat of arms. At the top and bottom, respec- tively, engraved inscriptions (tr.) “To Pavel Karlovitch Notbek” and (tr.) “St. Petersburg River Yacht Club 1872”. The cream-coloured, silk-lined interior with two inner pockets for documents. Dimensions 38.2 x 26.5 x 3.3 cm. Rare, minor traces of age, otherwise in good condition. Pavel Karlovitch Notbek, renowned St. Peters- burg architect and academic of architecture (1859). He was trained at the Imperial Acade- my of Fine Arts under the guidance of Profes- sor K. A. Ton. He built the Pavlovsky Institute and is considered the founder of the Russian jewellery style. The St. Petersburg Yacht Club attracted 2,700 people during the first 50 years of its existence, acquired 533 yachts and organ- ised more than 500 races.
