| 417 A Chinese statue of a standing Buddha, northern Wei dynasty, dated 526 Grey limestone. Nearly three-dimensional Buddha dressed in a gown with many folds and drapes, his right hand raised in a blessing gesture, his left hand pointed to the ground. The background decorated with seated Bud­ dha figures and angelic musicians in two con­ centric circles and arranged in vertical rows framed by flames. The reverse profusely deco­ rated with other Buddha figures and a date in­ dicating the second year of the reign of Emper­ or Yuan Xu (556). On a rectangular iron base. Height (without base) 62 cm, weight (without base) circa 30 kg. 262942 II - € 7.000 541 Philosophen-Stein „Gongshi”, China, wohl Ming-Dynastie, 16./17. Jhdt. Eindrucksvolle, natürlich vorkommende Steinformation, mehrfach durchbrochen. Bei diesem hellen Stein dürfte es sich um einen sog. Thaihu Limestone handeln. Auf ge- schnitztem Holzsockel. Altersspuren. Sockel später. Maße 70 x 26 x 22 cm. Provenienz: Aus einer belgischen Privat- sammlung in den 1970er Jahren erworben. A Chinese “gongshi” spirit stone, probably Ming dynasty, 16th/17th century An impressive, naturally occurring stone formation, with several perforations. This present, light-coloured stone is most likely to be Taihu limestone. Mounted on a carved wooden pedestal. Signs of age. The pedestal of later date. Dimensions 70 x 26 x 22 cm.
