Including needle bayonet, number “9961”. Length 56 cm. The “Vereinsgewehr” 1857 (also known as In- fantry Rifle 1857) was developed by Wurtem- berg, Baden and Hesse as new standard army rifle. A total of slightly more than 70,000 rifles were produced, among them approximately 30,000 for Wurtemberg and 20,000 each for Baden and Hesse. The “Vereinsgewehr” was first used during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, but was soon replaced by the advanced needle fire rifle. After the Battle of Königgrätz most rifles of this type were converted into the Dreyse needle-fire rifle model 1857/67 U/M, which makes our rifle in original, unmodified condition a very rare specimen! 265386 II - € 1.800 4019 4022 4020 4021
