| 23 A rare Cieszyn flintlock war hammer with lavish bone inlays, circa 1720 The sturdy, curved, quadrangular beak with fine floral chiselling, oval socket and offset, en suite chiselled, octagonal head. Round, smooth Damascus barrel in 16.5 mm calibre, the top lightly inlaid with oriental motifs in silver. The Italian flintlock with floral and figurative chiselling. The walnut stock entirely coveredwith inlays of engraved, blackened bone and mother-of-pearl. Depiction of fleeing animals and a hunter amidst tendril monsters. The long, bone handle featuring engraved and black ened putti interspersedwith floral garlands andmascarons. Length 77 cm. P rovenance : The Herbert G. Ratner Collection. Published in H.
