A significant German deluxe rapier, circa 1620 The narrow, double-edged blade of flattened diamond section with a flattened medial ridge. The upper third with a slender fuller on both sides, struck with the inscription “IN VIVI“ on both sides. Triple fullers on the ricas- so, engraved on both sides with raised floral decoration, inlaid in silver. S-shaped, curved quillons, with a large guard ring on the obverse and short finger rests. Lavishly embellished on both sides with raised figures and leafy vines inlaid in silver and remnants of fire-gilt cop- per on a finely stippled background. The gild- ing on the inner surface of the guard ring well preserved, with delicately chased tendrils. The grip with the original winding, made of plait- ed copper and iron wire, iron Turk’s heads. Pointed oval pommel, the décor in half relief, inlaid in silver and gilt copper. Two old collec- tion numbers attached. Length 104.5 cm.
