| 359 A significant Italian Renaissance sword with dedication from the Maltese Brotherhood, circa 1570 Sturdy, double-edged blade of flattened hexag- onal section with jagged edges on both sides. In the upper third fullers on both sides with Pas- sau wolf mark inlaid in brass, on the opposite side later etched dedication (tr.) "A. Schellen- berg Knight of the Order of the Black Brothers - Sword in memory of 19 March 1798". Sturdy ricasso with double-struck mark on both sides. Elaborately crafted hilt of brass chased in fine relief with remnants of gilding. Quillons, bar, grip and pommel in the shape of coiling snakes. Length 112 cm. Rare deluxe Renaissance sword which was presumably presented to an order member of outstanding merit from the holdings of the Maltese knights on the occasion of the surren- der of Malta in 1798. 243144 II - III € 9.600 1448 1448
