A knightly breastplate in the Italian style of circa 1410, early historicism era The distinctly domed breastplate forged in one piece, the flanges of the gussets and neck opening struck outwards. A V-shaped stop- rib (lisière d’arrêt) attached to the upper breast with three rivets. A lance rest attached on the right side on screw-mounted, rectangular loops. Three perforations for the shoulder straps struck in both shoulders, the sides with two perforations each. The interior with visi- ble hammer marks under the dark aged patina, traces of red lead coating. Height 40 cm. The only example of this early type of full breastplate known to have survived is in the armoury of the Graf von Trapp in the Castle of Churburg. This breastplate is presumably an outstanding early historicism copy in museum quality. 270274 II - € 4.000 1318 Gotische Brustplatte, deutsch, um 1460/70 Kräftig gewölbte Brust, am oberen Rand kräftiger, nach außen geschlagener Brech- rand. Die Armeinsätze fehlen, an der linken Schulter eine erhaltene eiserne Schnalle. Am rechten oberen Rand geschlagene Plattnerma- rke (zwei gekreuzte Schwerter). Aufgesetzte Verstärkungsplatte mit siebenfacher Flutung und geschweiften Rändern, die obere Spitze in einen Dreipass auslaufend. Stellenweise klei- ne Durchrostungen, eine größere Fehlstelle. Die fünf beweglich geschobenen Bauchreifen im 19. Jhdt. gut ergänzt. Zwei Reifen mit alten, genieteten Reparaturstellen. Höhe 54 cm. The arm gussets are missing, an iron buckle preserved on the left shoulder. An armourer's mark (two crossed swords) struck on the upper right-hand edge. Mounted reinforcement plate with seven-fold fluting and flanged edges, the upper tip tapering into a trefoil. Small perfora- tion corrosions in places, one larger flaw. The five movable articulated faulds are good 19th century replacements. Two faulds with old riv- eted repairs. Height 54 cm. 244550 III € 2.600 1318
