A black and white half armour for an officer with heart-shaped ornaments, Nuremberg, circa 1540/50 The skull of the burgonet forged in one piece. Low, roped comb. Riveted peak and neck guard. The large, hinged cheek pieces with perforations for hearing. Well-executed re- pairs in places on the crown and at the neck. The gorget opening on a hinge, with a clasp on the side. The two-lame neck guard with a prominently roped flange. The attached paul- drons sliding on five lames, with a fine turned and roped edge. The gauntlets with metacar- pi sliding on four lames, prominent roped knuckle guard. The attached finger defences with overlapping scales, the hinged thumb plates sliding on three lames. The short, lightly ridged cuffs with turned and roped edges. Dis- tinctly ridged breastplate, the gussets moving on sliding rivets. The angular, roped flanges struck inwards. A Nuremberg acceptance mark struck at the top right edge (somewhat rubbed). Two faulds with original, inserted codpiece. The attached cuisses each sliding on seven lames, with pronounced roped flanges. The backplate with distinct shoulder blades in repoussé. All armour components with a hammered, black and white décor, featuring a repeated heart motif in addition to the usual stripes. The surfaces slightly pitted, the blackening and leather lining are old replacements. Height circa 123 cm.
