Harvey Walklate Mortimer (1730 - 1820) ap- pointed royal gunmaker to George III, showed great interest in Lorenzoni’s self-loading mech- anism, to which he added a few small improve- ments of his own. Several self-loading flint- lock pistols of this type are known to have been made in his workshop. Produced in 1798-99, a very similar weapon from Mortimer’s work- shop, which belonged to Admiral Horatio Nel- son, can be found in the Metropolitan Muse- um, (inventory no. 35.81.3a–f). 259853 II € 25.000
