A deluxe flintlock rifle, Felix Meier of Vienna, circa 1710/20 Two-stage barrel, octagonal then round with smooth bore in 15 mm calibre. The upper side of the barrel decorated with tendrils inlaid in silver, at the breech standing huntsman with rifle and dog. Engraved tang, the screwmissing. Finely engraved lock with depiction of Diana and Cupid with two hunting dogs in an expan- sive landscape. Underneath the pan inscription “InWienn”. Carved stock of beautifully grained boxwood, converted from full stock to half stock during the time of its use. The forestock in- complete, the original nose of the full stock en- closed. The fittings of fire-gilt brass decorated in rich relief with engraved and chiselled hunt- ing scenes. Engraved barrel band of gilt brass. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 150 cm. Friedrich Ostermann, erwiesen 1684 - 1719 in Kopenhagen, dort u. a. für den dänischen Hof tätig, wurde zumHauptverantwortlichen für die Prunkwaffen auf Schloss Rosenborg ernannt. Walnut full stock carved with rocailles, lightly coloured horn nose. Smooth silver furniture, the escutcheon engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a tournament helmet. Wood ramrod with horn tip and threaded sleeve with bullet mould. Length 133 cm.
