| 269 Migration Period bandhelmet, 5th - 7th century Deformed and corroded iron bandhelmet of the type St. Vid/Narona. The shell composed of two halves and the 8 cm wide crown band fastened with rivets to the forehead ring. While the crown band is connected to the half-shells on both sides by eight groups of triple rivets, the forehead band was fastened by numerous single rivet pins. The shell pressed together lengthwise, with an elongated hole at the top, possibly caused by the impact of a battle axe, at one end a large broken out missing part. Inside and on one half of the outside traces of corro- sion, the other side better preserved with re- mains of a reddish surface. Due to the good metal substance impressive example of this rare helmet type. L. 23 cm. H. 15 cm. Jhdt. Beide Lanzenspitzen mit lanzettförmigem Blatt und Mittelgrat. Runde Tüllen. Sehr gute Erhaltung. Intakt. Länge 15,3 cm und 17,3 cm. Provenienz: Süddeutsche Privatsammlung, erworben zu Beginn der 2000er Jahre auf Sammlermärkten in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Belgien und den Niederlanden.
