Acquired on the art market and fromGerman private collections in the 1970s and 1980s. 262603 II - € 350 1763 Bronzeglocke, östlicher Mittelmeerraum, byzantinisch, 10. - 12. Jhdt. Tierglocke mit eingravierter Inschrift am oberen Rand, um die kräftige Öse herum: Ο ΑΓΗΟC ΒΛΑCΗΟC = der heilige Blasius. Der Bischof des armenischen Sebaste, der zu Beginn des 4. Jhdts. unter Licinius umgekommen sein soll, war im östlichen Mittelmeerraum ab dem 6. Jhdt. ein sehr beliebter Heiliger und wurde vor allem als Beschützer der Herden verehrt. Die Vita des Blasius überliefert, dass er von seinen Eltern große Viehherden erbte. Weißbronze mit gräulicher Patina. Klöppel fehlt, ansonsten intakt. Höhe 5,7 cm. Provenienz: Aus einer in Süddeutschland aufbewahrten Privatsamm- lung. Erworben in den 1970er bis 1980er Jahren im Kunsthandel und aus deutschen Privatsammlungen. A Byzantine bronze bell, Eastern Mediterranean, 10th - 12th century An animal bell with engraved inscription at the upper rim, around the massive eyelet: Ο ΑΓΗΟC ΒΛΑCΗΟC ΒΛΑCΗΟC = the holy Blasius. Beeindruckende bronzene Fünfknopffibel. Kopfplatte und rhombi- sche Fußplatte sind flächig mit Kreisaugendekor gefüllt. Fußende als stilisierter Tierkopf. Intakt bis auf die fehlende Nadel mit Spirale. Schö- ne hellgrüne Patina. Länge 17,5 cm. Provenienz: Aus einer in Süddeutschland aufbewahrten Privatsamm- lung.
