A Roman gold-mounted pendant with Apollo from the Danubian provinces, 3rd century Oval layer cameo with a depiction of an Apollo Citharoedus. The white figure of Apollo in relief emerges frontally towards us against a red background. Characterised by his attributes, the lyre in his left hand and the python serpent at his feet, the deity is almost nude. The render- ing of the body is highly detailed, skilfully portraying the different mus- cle groups, for example. The frontality adopted by the intaglio cutter is characteristic of provincial Roman, rather than urban Roman art. The cameo mounted on an oval, gold plaque. The decoration of the edges radiating outwards, a broad, ring-shaped loop at the top. An impressive piece of jewellery, featuring an aesthetically graduated colouration - white, red and gold - and good workmanship. Intact. Height 4.7 cm.
