En suite lid with a gold rim frieze, surmounted by a gilt, seated eagle, grasping lightning bolts in its talons. Total height 37 cm. Presented by the Kaiser, the magnificent gift of honour in outstanding condition. After his 28th aerial victory, Kaiser Wilhelm II awardedMax Ritter von Müller the Pour le Mérite order on 3 September 1917. He racked up a further ten aerial victories before being killed four months later. With 38 victories under his belt, he was one of World War I’s most successful fighter pilots. 229835 I - € 6.400 3951 Wilhelm II - a Presentation Trophy Cup Silver plated large trophy cup with two handles, engraved “MeinenAfrika Luftschiffer Kaptlt Bockholt Des Vaterlandes Dank” with facsimile of Wilhelm II and “R17”. Kaplt. Bockholt was the commander of the Airship L59 who organized the daring flight of a configured Zeppelin to fly to German East Africa to bring badly needed supplies to the troops of von Lettow-Vorbeck who fought the occupying British troops in aGue- rilla war from the 1914-18 with no supply. He raided English Depots for resupply. Bockholt flew 6,757 km to Kathum, South Sudan, a record for an airship at that time. Bottom is stamped “ORIGINAL WELLNER”, “AUGWELLNER SOHNEA.G.” and “30”. Leicht konische Form mit gerippter Wandung, unterhalb des Lippenrandes ein erhabener Mäanderfries, über dem Boden ein floraler und ein Akanthusblatt- Fries im Relief, jeweils vergoldet. Schauseitig Lorbeerkranz mit farbigem Luftkampf zweier Adler im Zentrum, darüber eine sehr detaillierte Miniatur des Pour le Mérites in Gold und Blau. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite ein identischer Lorbeerkranz mit im Zentrum in Gold gestalteter, teils polierter und radierter Chiffre „W II” unter der Kaiserkrone und über zwei Lorbeerbrüchen. Im Boden blau unterglasierte Zeptermarke, „KPM” mit Reichsapfel sowie Eisernes Kreuz in roter bzw. schwarzer Aufglasur, am Rand Press­ marken „D” und „3”. En suite gefertigter Deckel mit goldenem Rand­ fries, überhöht durch einen vergoldeten, sitzenden Adler mit Blitz­ bündeln in den Krallen. Gesamthöhe 37 cm. Beeindruckendes Ehrengeschenk des Kaisers in hervorragender Erhaltung. Nach seinem 28. Luftsieg verlieh Kaiser Wilhelm II. am 3. September 1917 Max Ritter von Müller den Orden Pour le Mérite, bis zu seinem Tod vier Monate später gelangen von Müller noch weitere zehn Luft­ siege. Mit seinen 38 Siegen war er einer der erfolgreichsten Jagdflieger des 1. Weltkriegs.
