330 | A significant deluxe wheellock rifle by Johann Jacob Kuchenreuter of Steinweg near Regensburg, circa 1760 Octagonal tapered barrel with original bluing somewhat rubbed in places. Rifled bore (seven grooves) in 15 mm calibre. Dovetailed iron sights, signature “IOHANN IACOB KUCHENREUTER” inlaid in gold and silver at the breech, gold-lined horseman mark. The base of the barrel, muzzle and tang decorated with cut and engraved rocailles on finely chiselled gold ground. Lock with internal wheel and springloaded pan cover. Profusely carved and engraved hunting scene on gold ground. Engraved mainspring housing of gilt brass, adjustable set trigger. Lightly carved walnut full stock, patch box with spring-loaded sliding lid. Finely engraved and chiselled furniture of gilt brass. The cheek piece with unknown crowned coat of arms between two cupids, butt cap with depiction of St. George. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 116.5 cm.
