A Scythian stick attachment (rattle with animal head, probably predatory cat), 7th - 6th century B.C. Iron rod, 23 cm long, pointed at the bottom, opening into an approx. 2.5 cm long spout of a cone-shaped bronze attachment . This is crowned by a stylised animal head, probably representing a predatory cat. The hollow cone is pierced by seven long-triangular slits. Inside is an iron ball that makes a noise when moved. Beautiful olive green patina of the bronze cone top, covered extensively with light bluish oxide deposits. Professional removal of these overlays would show off the smooth surface and details of the animal’s head to advantage. Probably ornament of a carriage. Total length 34 cm. Runde Spiegelfläche mit massivem, im Querschnitt dreieckigem Rand auf der Unterseite. Beide Flächen ehemals poliert. Unten beidseitig rundstabiger Stiel befestigt, der an einem Ende in zwei Blechlappen übergeht, die mit den Spiegelflächen amRand verlötet sind. Am anderen Ende ein plastisch ausgearbeiteter Widderkopf. Länge 26 cm. Oberfläche partiell mit leichten Korrosionen, Oxydauflagen und Inkrustationen. Provenienz: Ostdeutsche Privatsammlung. A Scythian bronze hand mirror, 5th century B.C. Round mirror surface with a solid rim of triangular cross-section on the underside. Both surfaces formerly polished. At the bottom, a round-barred style attached to both sides, which at one end merges into two sheet metal lobes soldered to the mirror surfaces at the rim. At the other end a sculpted ram’s head.
