Description
Long, quadrangular thrusting spike, extending via a medial ridge of square cross-section, divided into four segments, to a banded, conical socket. The openwork, concave axe blade with an openwork fluke on the back. Lavish, etched geometric décor on a black background on the tip, medial ridge and socket, the axe blade and fluke with elaborate etched and engraved representations of dragons. Long side straps. The original haft with a metal weave lanyard, closely studded with brass nails and bearing the remnants of a velvet cover (scuffed). Length 261 cm. Exceptionally fine halberd, which was probably used by the trabant guard of a ruler or dignitary.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
