A "kettle helmet" in the Swiss or Burgundian style of the late 15th century, historicism, 19th century

Description

The heavy skull forged in one piece with a rounded medial ridge, the upper edge flaring slightly, the brim turned under with a row of lining rivets. The leather lining made of chamois-dressed leather. Lightly pitted here and there, delamination in one place where the skull joins the brim. Dimensions 21 (height) x 37.5 (length) x 33.7 cm (width). Similar helmets to this example can be found in renowned collections, one such is in the holdings of the Museum Altes Zeughaus in Solothurn. See Vital, Das Alte Zeughaus Solothurn, 1980, p. 132.
