A small US ship's gun, so called "quarter deck cannon", 19th century

Description

Smooth brass barrel without rings in 25.4 mm (1 inch) calibre, lateral trunnions, the top of the back section with vent hole, the base of the breech with forked knob. Length of barrel (incl. knob) 50.5 cm. Robust mahogany carriage with two wheels, bolts, barrel holders, and eyebolts, also made of brass. Wedge for vertical adjustment missing. Overall length 79 cm. Similar guns were part of the more or less unofficial ship armament of the Confederate and Union navies and were used as signal and line guns, respectively.
