Description
Reddish ceramic with fine age patina. Round seat with a raised palmette design on the obverse, ornamental frieze around the perimeter of the seat. Flanked on either side by a chimera, their outstretched wings forming the arm and back rest. Seat with old heat crack, partially chipped and bumped due to weather exposure. Dimensions 73.5 x 63 x 60 cm. Rare original classicist chair, of which many copies were produced since the late 19th century. For example by Signa Manifattura, which has had this model on offer since 1895.Provenance: Old Parisian private collection. Including three pictures which show the chair in a 1960s interior setting.
