Description
Oil on canvas. Atmospheric landscape view, depicting a hunting party by a river. A couple of huntsmen with dogs ride out of the forest and chase a deer crossing the river. Old trees with massive crowns tower above the river scene. Craquelures. In a profile frame of gilt wood. Dimensions of painting 75 x 100 cm, dimensions of frame 91 x 116 cm. Jan van Kessel (Amsterdam) was probably a pupil of Jacob van Ruisdael and was well acquainted with the paintings of Meindert Hobbema. He painted various types of landscapes (among them many forest landscapes) and street sceneries.Provenance: According to the consignor this painting is from the collection of Countess Montgelas.
