Description
Custom-made piece for the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen. The pipe-backed blade with yelmen forged of Damascus steel. A gilt dedication cartouche "Dem besten Schützen 1933 - Ehrenpreis des Staatsministeriums des Innern" on the obverse, an en suite cartouche "Major Schlieper" on the reverse and the early Eickhorn logo on the ricasso. The supplier's name "Anton Schweyer, München" on the back of the blade. Knuckle-bow hilt with foliage in relief, lion's head pommel set with red glass eyes (one eye missing). The uncrowned Bavarian lion holding a sword and escutcheon on the obverse languet, the seated panther of the Bavarian State Police on the reverse languet. Black plastic grip with wire winding. Blackened steel scabbard with suspension ring. Length 98 cm. Peter Schlieper, born on 1 August 1884, was promoted to Hauptmann of the Bavarian State Police on 1 May 1929.
