Description
Double-edged blade (darkened, stained) without maker’s mark, of lenticular section in the upper and of hexagonal section in the lower half. In the upper part Latin dedication "Comiti. F. Xav. Schmising . Kerssenbrock. quod. singulare. certamen. in . obsequium .divinae . legis forti . animo. detrectaverit. insigne. hoc . virtutis . sue . et . christianae . gratulationis . testimonium" engraved in upper case. Gilt knuckle-bow hilt of non-ferrous metal (rubbed, minor cracks) with chequered ebony grip and cuff of non-ferrous metal engraved with coat of arms of Pius IX. Slightly damaged in places, traces of age. Length 97 cm. Unique high-ranking edged weapon.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
