Description
The slender, octagonal barrel with a slightly flared muzzle, smooth bore in 12 mm calibre. Dovetailed sights, engraved foliage at the muzzle and the root of the barrel. An unidentified rose hallmark struck at the breech. Combined matchlock and wheellock action with semi-internal wheel. The lock plate struck with repeated rose mark. Lateral safety lever, spring-lock pan cover with a release button. Adjustable trigger with fingered trigger guard made of iron. The full stock in fruitwood with profuse, delicately engraved and blackened bone inlays. Depictions of different mythical creatures amidst scrolling bands and tendrils. The patch box with a spring catch and sliding lid. The owner's coat of arms engraved on the butt cap. The wooden ramrod with engraved bone tip. Length 130.5 cm.The rare, early, superbly wrought wheellock rifle in exceptionally good condition.
