Description

Finely repousséd silver plate with finely engraved and chased details. The three-dimensional figures partially applied. Portrayal of French hussars attacking a generic infantry unit. On the lower edge engraved signature "Kirstein orfre. à Straßbourg 1809". Partially small losses in the background in the transition to the figures. Under glass in original fire-gilt bronze frame with movable suspension ring. Diameter 9.5 cm, framed 14.5 cm.
Jakob Friedrich Kirstein (1765 - 1838), Strasbourg silversmith, known for his elaborately crafted miniature reliefs.
